TRADITIONAL NORWEGIAN FOLK MUSIC
This video was submitted by Wendy Grant, who is Geoffrey's sister. Wendy is one of the most famous Agers, as she was British Ladies fencing champion in 1974 and 1980, and represented GB at two Olympics: Wendy and her family now live in Norway. This piece is called' Lisas Vals' and is a tune Wendy wrote for her daughter Lisa twenty years ago. The group performing in the video is called 'De Frilynde' and is based in 'Follo' a region South and East of Oslo. They are playing at the 'Landsfestival i Gammeldans' (National Old time Dancing championships). Wendy is playing violin on the far right.
SPECULATION ABOUT ORIGINS OF THE SURNAME "AGER"
A couple of years ago Geoff had a DNA test done for the ancestry.co.uk website. The result included a 4% portion of Swedish ancestry. He can't find any link on Ancestry to Sweden, but this map from 1822 includes a large area east of Oslo, now known as ‘Akers, which was known then as "Agers". The area stretches to the border with Sweden and includes the town of Nittedal where Geoff's sister Wendy & family now live. Big question : Did William Agar’s father migrate from here to Kendal in the Lake District and use this location as a surname.
